One of the reasons I wrote this book is because I want to share what I’ve learned about life from my favorite game, football. This may or may not be your favorite game, but this sport has given so much to me. Whatever your feelings about it, whether or not you’ve ever had any involvement with football on any level, I hope you’ll have this book in your hands and I’m glad if its in your hands right now.

No matter who you are or where you are in life, the secret of football is for you, too. I am totally convinced that once you learn the secret of the game, you’ll be able to succeed in whatever you choose to do.

Football isn’t just about spending sixty minutes on a rectangular, chalk-lined field of green and walking away either a winner or a loser. It’s about how practice, discipline, victories, losses, hard work, team play, focus, competitive spirit and creativity transcend the contests that are played each fall weekend. The game is a microcosm of life. Learning the secret of football can and will contribute enormously to achieving true success in any aspect of your life.

The fifth quarter is the ongoing game we all play, the game of life. It’s 24/7, 365 days long, and it doesn’t stop when the referee blows a whistle. It’s your game. How you handle the opportunities that come your way will determine whether you win or lose.
